Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer with a career that spanned 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her soft, melodic vocals and languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" the song she premiered in her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her part in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her professional career began as an actress while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35 year acting career began with film in 1944. It featured parts in the lead female in numerous westerns. The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. It was the beginning of her professional career in music. In 1969 she released her final studio album. But she continued to be part of the Emergency series in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) In the show, she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
